EXPLORING THE ACTOR’S EDGE 2019
According to research conducted by the University of Florida, “93% of Americans believe that the arts are vital to providing well-rounded education for children.” Shea’s Performing Arts Center, along with Theatre of Youth, Inc. (TOY) is excited about this year’s The Actor’s Edge Intensive program.
What is The Actor’s Edge?
This rigorous, two-week program is helmed by Shea’s Teaching Artist Victoria Pérez and provides young adults the opportunity to explore and apply various acting methods including those by Hagen, Chekhov, Suzuki, and Linklater. These methods will give the students the creative confidence they need to continue their pursuit of theatrical ventures. Each method requires the students to strengthen their self-awareness, social awareness and sense of empathy across lines of difference.
Why Is Exposure to the Arts Important?
Holding true to TOY’s and Shea’s Performing Arts Center’s missions, The Actor’s Edge intensive is meant to integrate transferable skills that the students can take with them in their artistic and professional journeys. This intensive is, well…intense! In two short weeks, our students will explore college-level acting techniques in preparation for the Final Showcase. It is the goal of this intensive to set each student up for success as they bring together their love of learning, passion for theatre and hunger for more. As it’s been said, they are “young, scrappy and hungry.”
This Year’s Showcase Performance
To culminate our inaugural Actor’s Edge intensive program, our students will be performing in a Final Showcase. On Friday, August 23rd at 5:00pm in Shea’s Smith Theatre, join us as we celebrate our students’ love of learning and passion for theatre.
