Starring Buffalo is thrilled to return to live performances with RENT, the pop culture phenomenon about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT is set in New York’s East Village, and features a score that rocks and a story that connects with audiences of all ages.
The cast features Broadway stars Jay Armstrong Johnson (Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, TV’s Quantico) as Roger, Jerusha Cavazos (Broadway’s The Prom, TV’s FBI) as Mimi and Troy Iwata (Broadway’s Be More Chill, Netflix’s Dash & Lily) as Mark, performing alongside Buffalo area stars Leah Berst as Maureen, Dudney Joseph Jr. as Collins, Alex McArthur as Joann, and Joe Russi as Angel. Buffalo’s best join them on stage for each unforgettable performance: Blaise Miranda Mercedes, Jennifer Mysliwy, Sean Ryan, Jonathan Young as well as dozens of Western New York singers, dancers, and musicians.
STARRING BUFFALO shows offer Buffalo audiences unrivaled access to Broadway’s greatest theater artists, and provide Western New York students the chance to learn from, work alongside, and be inspired by the stars in both master classes and performances. The organization launched in 2018 with THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME starring Broadway’s Ben Fankhauser (Newsies, Spring Awakening) and Dan’yelle Williamson (Memphis, The Lion King), and presented LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS starring Matt Doyle (Company, The Book of Mormon) and Lindsay Nicole Chambers (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) at their new home, Shea’s 710 Theater, in 2019. Last season, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they continued their mission through virtual programming featuring Buffalo and Broadway’s best.

Shea’s Performing Arts Center looks forward to reopening on September 10, 2021. As we raise the curtain for Disney’s Frozen, all patrons, volunteers, and staff are required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Masks are required at all times – upon arrival, performance, and departure. Shea’s will follow the safety protocols from the CDC, New York State, and Erie County that are in place at the time of reopening and will inform patrons of those requirements prior to the performances.
