Community Fair in MLK Park. Shea’s hosted an informational table with materials of our whole season with an emphasis on The Color Purple. Representatives from all 3 companies were present.
Stitch Buffalo
Two workshops with Gabriela McKinley. Participants made textiles using The Color Purple as inspiration. Final textiles are in the 710 Lobby for the duration of the run.
The Color Purple Conversation-A Panel Discussion: Making a Way when you See no Way
A panel discussion led by Kimberly Johnson (Board Chair of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library).
Panelists: Hon. April N. Baskin, Pastor Bertha A. Brinson, Zeneta B. Everhart, Dr. Ellen E. Grant, PhD, LCSW-R, Sarah Norat Phillips, Justice E. Jeannette Ogden, Dr. Nicole Morris Johnson, Mercedes Wilson.
Discussion focused on the 4 main characters of The Color Purple (Celie, Nettie, Sophia and Shug). Each actor recorded a short video on their understanding of the characters and how their struggles and personal stories have impacted audiences through the novel, movie and musical. These videos were used as a conversation starter. The panelists were asked how they each saw themselves in the characters and the impact they’ve had on their own lives. After, the audience had a chance to ask the panelist questions.
