While you may know us as the faces behind some of your favorite Shea’s educational programming, we would like to take a minute to introduce ourselves and propose some intentions for the new year.
Thembi Duncan: Director of Arts Engagement and Education
Having moved from Washington D.C., Thembi began her journey with Shea’s in April and has been enjoying her time in Buffalo!
“’Perfectionism is the enemy of ___________.’ Fill in the blank with any positive idea you can think of, and the statement will ring true. While reflecting over the events in my life over the past year, I realized that my perfectionism was simply self-doubt in disguise. In 2019, I will trust myself more and spend less time agonizing over tiny details that – Surprise! – turn out to be insignificant in the long run. In other words, I won’t sweat the small stuff! At Shea’s, I look forward to expanding our reach into the community and forging new, exciting arts education partnerships. Onward!”
Fun Fact: Thembi played Quarterback and Tight End on three different flag football teams!
Jennifer Fitzery: Senior Education Associate
As the Senior Education Associate, Jennifer works with educational outreach programs such as Shea’s in Schools, Shea’s Masterclasses, and more.
“In 2019, I hope to pay more attention to the world around me and to find more opportunities to volunteer within the community. At Shea’s, I am very excited for the production of Dear Evan Hansen to be presented. I am also looking forward to seeing Miss Saigon for the first time.”
Fun Fact: Jennifer knows how to tap dance and owns two pet rats!
Holly Grant: Education Coordinator
As the Education Coordinator, Holly manages many of the in house educational programs such as the Kenny Awards and Shea’s On School Time Series.
“My goal for 2019 is to step out of my comfort zone more regularly, exposing myself to new people, places, and things and perhaps pick up a new skill or two that I can pass along through my work and music making. I also intend to spend more time with my cat, Sammy.” (see right)
Fun Fact: Holly lived in the Philippines for a few years when she was younger. Her dad served in the Air Force and she moved around a lot, but was able to see some pretty cool places!
Devon Bradley: Education Assistant
Devon has just completed her first full year working as the Education Assistant and is pursuing her Master’s at Canisius College.
“My intention for 2019 is to be more mindful and to channel my creativity through music and art as often as I can. This year I am most looking forward to the opportunity to bring in more communities to Shea’s to provide more enriching arts education.”
Fun Fact: If Devon could play any role in the world it would either be the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera or Roger in Rent!
Victoria Pérez-Maggiolo: Teaching Artist
Victoria is the newest member of the Arts Engagement and Education Team and also serves as the Co-Owner and Artistic Director of Raíces Theatre Company.
“I’m excited for this new venture of joining the Shea’s Arts Engagement and Education Department! I am looking forward to learning from everyone here and expanding my arts integration experience. In 2019 I intend to continue using theatre and storytelling as a means of self-reflection and growth. I would like to reach as many young people as possible, learn about their experiences, and have theatre be the means by which they explore, share and witness.”
Fun Fact: Victoria has a twin brother named Victor. Yes…Victor and Victoria! She was destined to adore Julie Andrews!
