    Position Summary:  

    Shea’s Arts Engagement and Education Department seeks an inspiring and experienced educator/arts administrator who will work to engage WNY using the performing arts and fostering an appreciation of live theatre from the community at large.This individual will have a passion and commitment for diversity, equity and inclusion in education and can build interpersonal relationships with diverse audiences. The Arts Engagement Coordinator will provide support to Shea’s teaching artists, arrange production-related engagement events, identify relevant funding opportunities, and maintain program-related data. They will coordinate with area educators, educational institutions and cultural organizations in the implementation of existing programs and in the development of new collaborative projects that encourage community-building, increase educational opportunities and support social connections.  

     

    Essential Functions: 

    • WNY Residencies: Coordinate small and large-scale teaching artist residencies at Shea’s Performing Arts Center and in community groups, organizations, and corporations throughout Western New York. Conduct pre-residency, mid-course, and post-residency meetings with relevant points of contact. Provide access to relevant training for community stakeholders in preparation for arts residencies. Recruit appropriate teaching artist necessary to execute residencies.
    • Teaching Artist Development: Recruit, train, and support new, emerging, and seasoned teaching artists.  Prepare training sessions and materials for all Shea’s teaching artists. Research national trends in teaching artistry and attend training sessions for front line teaching artists and administrators.
    • Production-related Engagement: Schedule classes, workshops, talkbacks, and backstage tours with guest artists from Broadway tours and traveling shows. Arrange teaching artists, panels, and guests for engagements at Shea’s Buffalo, Shea’s Smith and Shea’s 710, and for Shea’s Free Family Film Series.
       
    • Family Series:  Coordinate group ticket sales efforts for weekday matinee performances.  Establish and maintain communication with group leaders.  Reserve tickets for attending groups and complete payment procedures.  Work closely with House Manager in coordination of audience services.
       
    • Collaborative Projects:  Organize and implement existing collaborative projects, and develop new collaborative projects as needed.  Duties include reserving space, developing schedules, arranging cast appearances, maintaining communication with participating organizations and schools.
    • Funding: Assist community partners with identifying sources of funding for programs. Prepare grant language, data, and reports for submissions by Shea’s Development department. Identify and develop fee-for-service opportunities.
    • Data: Research and create metrics, rubrics, and assessments for all programming. Collect, analyze, track, and package data from all Shea’s residencies, classes, and workshops. Document residencies with photo and video, in collaboration with photographers and videographers. 

     

    Additional Responsibilities: 

    • Research potential funding options and develop materials used to support grant applications. 
    • Supervise education department interns and any volunteers assisting during educational events.  

     

    Education and Experience: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Education, Arts Administration, Theatre or Music Management or the Arts strongly preferred 
    • Previous experience in education, engagement, and arts learning preferred. 
    • Previous experience in project management or events management strongly preferred  
    • Two years of experience in non-profit program management 
    • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite 
    • Strong communication skills 
    • Excellent writing skills 
    • Broad cultural competencies 
    • Grantwriting knowledge 

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with multiple departments and connect to a very diverse audience on many different levels. 
    • Superior organization abilities, attention to detail and experience in managing diverse tasks in high pressure, deadline-oriented environment. 
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. 
    • Ability to work independently and maintain self-supervision, as well as ability to work productively in a team environment. 
    • Basic knowledge of educational principles, learning standards, curriculum development and lesson planning.  Experience in public presenting and/or classroom instruction. 
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
    • Proficient in computer applications and attention to detail.
